There hasn’t been the anticipation for the opening of a new golf course in Canada like that for Cabot Links in a long time.
Ten holes of the true links course (man, is that links term ever wrongly used: a true links course can only be on land that “links” the ocean to the land) located in Inverness, NS, are scheduled to open on Canada Day.
What makes the course so richly anticipated is it is a collaborative effort between Ben Cowan-Dewar, an entrpreneur behind Golfclubatlas.com and Mike Keiser, the developer behind the industry-changing Bandon Dunes. The architect is Rod Whitman, who has an impressive resume which includes the highly-regard Blackhawk Golf Club near Edmonton, which is ranked 15th on ScoreGolf’s Top 100 Courses in Canada, and Sagebrush with Richard Zokol, ScoreGolf’s best new course of 2009.
Then there’s the setting, of course, spectacular links land on the west coast of Cape Breton.
The buzz around Cabot will increase Thursday when they post a video trailer on the website (link above) of the work in the progress. It’s being produced and directed by Michael Robin, the executive producer and director of the TNT series The Closer.
It will be interesting to see.
