Tiger Woods nails man in the head with British Open drive

Fourteen-time major champion Tiger Woods is still searching for that elusive British Open title.

He’s off to a decent start this year, shooting a three-under 69 opening round on Thursday.

It wasn’t an entirely smooth day in Hoylake, however, with Woods being forced to shake off some rust in the early-goings.

His day was sprinkled with a couple sideshow moments.

For instance, a man on the course — apparently a marshal — took a bouncing 17th-hole Woods drive off the noggin.

The man would be OK.

Fortunately for a few other folks close to the action, Woods stopped the following swing halfway.

Before teeing off on another hole, he directed a little fit at nearby media members.

“Jesus Christ!” Woods yells in frustration after walking away from the tee mid-swing.

Despite these events, PGA Tour vet Ernie Els somehow managed to one-up Woods.

Here is video evidence of Els, another former world No. 1, three-putting a two-foot putt.

Yikes.

(Thanks to For The Win for bringing this to our attention.)

Well, I’m 99.99% sure it really was an accident (esp. given his reaction), I suppose, unless it later emerges that the man is or was a rival for Lindsey Vonn? :-)
