Blue Jackets’ Tropp toe drags his way to a marvelous goal

James Neal recorded a career-high five points, but Corey Tropp had the last laugh.

At least on the highlight reel…

The Columbus Blue Jackets forward dismantled Olli Maatta’s ability to defend during a Sunday contest between the Jackets and Pittsburgh Penguins. The Pens won 5-3.

Maatta, a standout rookie, is no slouch. Yet Tropp’s dangles, which included a nifty toe drag, surely got the better of him here.

Pittsburgh fill-in goalie Jeff Zatkoff, who improved to 7-2-1 in his freshman season (not bad, eh?), also didn’t fare too well against the 24-year-old’s slick moves.

It was Tropp’s fifth NHL goal in 57 games. As you can imagine, he is more of a “depth guy” at the NHL level.

I’d make a joke about Maatta’s jock strap being somewhere far away, but I think American Leaguer Connor Knapp filled the jock talk quota for a little while (see below).

God bless.
