Boy, that was ugly… Douglas Murray head checks Kostka

- April 2nd, 2014

Late in the third period on Tuesday, Montreal Canadiens blueliner Douglas Murray delivered a nasty shot to the head of Tampa Bay Lightning defenceman Mike Kostka.

The “hit” was more of a flying elbow than anything, to be honest.

Kostka was laid out, completely flat, following the collision. Medical staff wheeled out a stretcher, but the former Toronto Maple Leaf left the ice on his own power.

Murray, who received a match penalty on the play, will likely be hearing from NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan.

See why:

Thankfully, Kostka will probably be alright:

Now, onto some cherry news from Tuesday’s NHL action…

Here is St. Louis Blues trickster T.J. Oshie doing his best “T.J. Oshie at the Olympics” impression at the expense of Philadelphia Flyers netminder Ray Emery.

Man, can that dude score a pretty shootout goal:

Kostka did not require a stretcher. Medical staff quickly brought one out, but Kostka woke up, sat up, and stood up all on his own (with a little precautionary help). He skated to the bench and was helped off the ice, onto the bench, and down the hallway to the dressing room.

Doesn’t make it any better but he did not need a stretcher.
