Sabres owner on 3rd jersey: It might be a ‘turd burger’

- October 3rd, 2013

The Buffalo Sabres’ ugly third jerseys are here to stay.

Despite unanimous negative response to the new digs, they’ll be worn for 10 games this year, according to team president Ted Black.

And judging by what Black had to say during an appearance on WGR Radio, he doesn’t really care about what the pundits think.

In fact, he has quite a taste for what he predicts might be a sales “turd burger.”

“It’s received a ton of criticism and a lot of attention. I think it had over four million mentions on Twitter,” Black said. “I’ve seen it. It’s something that doesn’t offend me. I think people have had a lot of fun with the criticisms of it.”

“If it doesn’t sell, it won’t really mean anything to our bottom line,” he added. “It’s a third jersey. If it’s a turd burger I’ll have to put it on a bun and eat it. It’s the way it is.”

“We kept the logo the same. We wanted to do something that was a little bit more non-traditional, so it’s two-toned; it’s gold in the front and blue in the back; it has different colors for numbering; it has the Buffalo font in the front. Like I said, no one’s gonna twist your arm, put a gun to your head if you don’t wanna buy it, Howard, you don’t have to.”

We don’t think any fashion houses will be calling him or the brains behind the banana uni any time soon.

i totally don’t mind yellow jerseys. boston’s third is cool. nashville’s old mustard one too. but this mixture of yellow and “gold” here really looks awful.

Wow….is that a real jersey that Ott is modeling? What’s with the different colors of yellow or gold in the front? Looks like a bib! Don’t tell me that the Sabres paid somebody to design that please……..my mother could have done a better job with the stuff you can find at the Sally Ann!
