GRAPHIC PHOTO: Aftermath of Getzlaf’s face shot-block

- April 17th, 2014

It’s never a happy ending when puck meets face.

Exhibit A: Ryan Getzlaf’s brother, Chris — a professional athlete in his own right as a member of the Saskatchewan Roughriders — tweeted a cringe-worthy photo of the Anaheim Ducks star’s mug Thursday night:

How does one look this way, you ask?

With about 17 seconds remaining in Game 1 of the Ducks-Dallas Stars series Wednesday, the Regina native made an unexpected shot-block on a Tyler Seguin clapper.

In case you haven’t seen it yet, here is the incident:

Getzlaf is expected to suit up for Game 2, which goes Friday in Anaheim, despite the need for multiple stitches and, as the photo shows, his noggin looking a little worse for wear.

Ducks teammate Ben Lovejoy chimed in on the matter at Thursday’s practice. He offered a great line.

“Luckily, he’s married, has a couple of kids,” Lovejoy said of Getzlaf. “He’s not trying to impress anybody with his face.”
