Hockey Night In Canada’s playoff intro will give you goosebumps

- April 16th, 2014

Let’s get one thing straight here: The NHL playoffs don’t begin until Hockey Night In Canada’s opening montage has ended.

On Wednesday, moments before the Montreal Canadiens and Tampa Bay Lightning kicked off their series and the entire 2014 post-season, CBC pressed play on Tim Thompson’s latest masterpiece.

Set to Metallica’s thunderous For Whom The Bell Tolls, playoff footage, new and old, is intertwined with memorable soundbites from players, coaches and media:

A few of my favourite quotes from the video:

  • “The nervous energy in this building could power a 747.” – Jim Hughson
  • “The pressure: You think you can’t handle it, and then all of a sudden you thrive on it.” – Brett Hull
  • “This is so exciting. I wish it could go on forever.” – Bob Cole
