Leafs fans mock Parros injury

- October 2nd, 2013

Deep-seeded rivalries can bring the worst out of sports fans, but those with brain cells know where to draw the line.

That line is somewhere before an opposing player suffers a serious injury.

During Tuesday night’s NHL season opener between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens, CBC reporter Mathieu Gohier tweeted an Instagram photo showing two Leafs fans “Parrosing” — it’s like planking! — in an attempt mock Habs forward George Parros.

Parros suffered a concussion and was wheeled off the ice on a stretcher after falling on his face during a fight with Colton Orr.

Pretty shocking stuff. But while many were saying a prayer, these fans were busy ridiculing the horrifying moment.

The Instagram account, which belongs to a user named Damian Amato, is set to private. On Twitter, however, he defended his actions.

He brought it on himself.

Quite distasteful, no matter which team your a fan of…you don’t make fun of a player getting injured…just shows the maturity level.

  2. Brad | October 2, 2013 at 4:50 am

And this is why no one like Leafs fans. Metaphorically, Parros’ appearance on the ice is exactly how the Leafs have been performing for about 20 years. One trip to the playoffs (because they ran out of time last year to choke properly) and they act like they are the 10 time champs.

  3. maxwell_2 | October 2, 2013 at 5:33 am

Can we expect a Leaf fan to have any class? Hey fish dont swim, right?

  4. greg | October 2, 2013 at 5:34 am

how many days did i here the leaf fans crying and wihinning about the scott ,, kessell fight,,,, kessell is the one swinging the stick….leaf fans and media are rthe biggest whinners, go and hibrenandt for another 46 yrs

  5. Shawn | October 2, 2013 at 5:35 am

I’m not a fan of either team, but that was pretty scary stuff (Parros hitting his face on ice) but the photo does not surprise me seeing it was a LEAF fan

  6. John | October 2, 2013 at 6:07 am

The team may have finally progressed beyond being the biggest joke in hockey but apparently not all the clowns got the message.
I stopped taking my kids to home games versus the Leafs because the fans are drunken, obnoxious idiots. Case in point…

  7. Tom Robinson | October 2, 2013 at 6:19 am

Just shows you the class of LEAF NATION

  8. Tim | October 2, 2013 at 6:22 am

I love it! Once we found he’s going to be ok, all bets are off. It’s fair game to make fun.

  9. Ray | October 2, 2013 at 6:28 am

These guys are idiots …. You guys should be ashamed of yourself.. True Leaf Fans would never be that distasteful .

  10. Philo Beddoe | October 2, 2013 at 6:37 am

We don’t need idiots like this on our side #jerkoff

  11. merv | October 2, 2013 at 6:43 am

i agree that you do not make a joke of someones injury.that was unbelevable the nasty opening to the game with hab fans booing the leafs .how proud to be a canadian!

  12. DealMeIn | October 2, 2013 at 6:50 am

No real sport’s fan, and certainly nobody who has ever played the game (with any level of integrity) would mock a player being injured. Classless…and that will be echoed by fans of any stripe.

  13. Dan | October 2, 2013 at 7:10 am

tasteless display by a couple of scumbag losers. Fools and the company they keep. Orr was classy as he called over for help. George is a warrior doing his job; to a speedy recovery.

  14. colthorn | October 2, 2013 at 7:14 am

Not all Leaf fans are morons. Please don’t paint us with that brush. It was a shameful post but a guy who thinks he is funny. The whole incident was horrific. I hope Parros is ok.

  15. Chris | October 2, 2013 at 7:16 am

    Classless

  16. Brad | October 2, 2013 at 7:27 am

This is sick how people think this is a laughing matter leafs nobody likes you and this is why no one likes you all of your fans are a bunch of assholes

  17. Kal | October 2, 2013 at 7:31 am

I’m a leafs fan and this behavior is appalling and disgusting!! It doesn’t represent all leaf fans and I can tell you that I only wish they were standing toe-to-toe with Parros! I hope Parros makes a quick and full recovery.

  18. Gumper17 | October 2, 2013 at 7:31 am

And “Leaf Nation” wonders why the rest of civilization has it in for them. Sick and immature rules the day in Leafland. On a serious note it truly is looking more and more like something will have to be done about goonery in the NHL.

  19. Colin | October 2, 2013 at 7:33 am

This is almost as tasteless as the Leaf fan who made up the “Toronto Stronger” sign when they faced Boston in the playoffs. Way to stay classy Toronto.

  20. Todd | October 2, 2013 at 7:38 am

Sick. What if that was Kessel. Would anyone be mocking him?

  21. Jay | October 2, 2013 at 7:42 am

Disgusting….Typical Leaf fans…Guess they really don;t have anything else to cheer for…
Mocking a serious injury like this is pathetic- as are the fans that do it.

  22. rm | October 2, 2013 at 7:46 am

I am a leaf fan don’t paint us all with same brush..that was terrible

  23. BayBruiser | October 2, 2013 at 7:48 am

    Anthony and Mathieu…
“Those with brain cells”; especially those in the media, should have the brain-power to not give these two morons the time of day by posting their picture. They showed zero class and you are both showing zero class and zero professionalism.

  24. Allin | October 2, 2013 at 7:49 am

Very funny!! Habs fans are less tasteful and more ruthless so don’t go getting all high and mighty. Parros wanted to dance and whether it’s a Hab, a Leaf, a Duck – they run the risk of being injured in their sideshow. Hopefully the hospital will shave that porn stache – ‘dude’s an embarrassment.

  25. Alex | October 2, 2013 at 7:50 am

Tasteless, especially since Colton Orr suffered a concussion a few years ago. There are jerks everywhere. BTW I am a Leafs fan.

  26. Barry Davis | October 2, 2013 at 7:51 am

This shows how much class some fans have.

  27. Andy | October 2, 2013 at 7:52 am

Boo Hoo. Like no one ever mocked Nick Kypros when he was knocked out of hockey and lay on the ice out like a light. Typical of Montreal fans. Get a grip, he’ll live to fight another day and Montreal will lose again on November 30th.

  28. Ernest | October 2, 2013 at 7:54 am

What is happing to Fans when you jeer and laugh at Player for being seriously Injured that they leave on a stretcher. A good fan is like a player of any sport you have a good battle against the Team or player your facing and at the end you shake hands and respect to show sportsmanship and the quality of person you are and the Team is All About Quality Sports. Those that can’t handle the Ups and Downs of a game what ever sport it is should remove themselves to keep the sport respectful and show that it is still an Honor to watch a very entertaining game that we all Love.

  29. Dan | October 2, 2013 at 8:00 am

Another reason why everybody hates Leafs fans…no class whatsoever.

  30. Alexa | October 2, 2013 at 8:05 am

It’s fans like this that make me ashamed to be a Leafs fan and why I avoid telling people I am so I don’t get lumped in with these idiots.

  31. Spencer | October 2, 2013 at 8:10 am

I’m sorry but these guys are just two people who made a bad joke. When a serious injury occurs, the players stop everything because rivalries aside there is always a mutual respect. As for fans there are DUMB ASS FANS ON EVERY HOCKEY TEAM!!!! Do you really want judge all fans based on a few drunk idiots? I am a huge leaf fan and I don’t agree with the photo, but most of the comments on this page are ridiculous. You dont think some habs fans are crazy?? I can walk into a bar in MTL with a leafs hat on an some drunk asshole will want to fight. That’s not all habs fans…just a drunk. Relax and go find real news to comment on.

  32. Matt | October 2, 2013 at 8:12 am

One wearing a Kadri jersey and one wearing a Kessel jersey. These guys can’t be taken seriously anyway. Leafs fans and Canucks fans are right up there for being the biggest whiners/classless fans in the NHL.

  33. Sens Fan At The Beach | October 2, 2013 at 8:25 am

    Stay classy Leafs fans.

  34. bingham | October 2, 2013 at 8:27 am

Typical Leafs Fans, don’t worry. Karma will have the Leafs golfing next June.

  35. Joe | October 2, 2013 at 8:30 am

Pathetic. Mocking an injury to any player is about as tasteless and ignorant a thing as you can do.

    These are NOT hockey fans.

  36. LeafsFan32 | October 2, 2013 at 8:33 am

I totally agree that the actions of these two idiots was definately over the line… but you can’t let the actions of two fools reflect on a total fan base. Leafs fans are just as ashamed of these two boneheads

  37. John | October 2, 2013 at 8:34 am

I’m a leaf fan and that’s horrible, not all leaf fans are like this please do not label all of us true hockey fans to some dumb individuals, that injury was scary my thoughts and prayers are with him. Hope he makes a full recovery. I do have to say I did like how Orr called for the medics and looked like he was genuinely worried. But those guys are a bunch of idiots!

  38. karen | October 2, 2013 at 8:35 am

was this before or after the Habs fans were assaulting the leafs fans at the arena? my brothers were there paid good money to be there and one of them got assaulted twice by a Habs fan

  39. STONE169 | October 2, 2013 at 8:42 am

Doesn’t matter what team you’re a fan of, this really isn’t cool at all.

  40. Cappthook | October 2, 2013 at 8:43 am

Leaf fan here. There is no way this idiot represents Leaf fans. The worst part of all this is the idiot doesn’t get it. He doesn’t believe he’s done anything wrong. Leaf Nation doesn’t need idiots like this. Lets all hope that GP gets better quickly!

  41. DAle | October 2, 2013 at 8:43 am

I am NOT a leaf fan. But MOST leaf fans are fine. However it is idiots like these that give the whole LEaf Nation and bad name. And these are the type of idiots that goto Leafs/Sens games in Ottawa and ruin it for people trying to enjoy the game

  42. P Smith | October 2, 2013 at 8:48 am

That is brutal, I am a leaf fan those guys are just two classless idiots. No fan of any intelligence or respect for sport would do that. Please send me your jerseys I will refund you the money for them. Find another some other way to entertain yourselves your clearly not hockey fans and you embarrass all of us.

  43. JC | October 2, 2013 at 8:50 am

its unfortunate that this young soul thought it necessary to mock at one misfortune. thankfully Parros was wearing his helmet. That could have been so much worse. Kudoos to Colton Orr, Talk about a class act. He began to signal for assistance as soon as he knew something was wrong.

  44. 22hockey_fan22 | October 2, 2013 at 8:52 am

please don’t associate these idiots with the rest of us Leaf fans. what these dolts did is totally disgusting.

  45. SLC | October 2, 2013 at 8:53 am

    You stay classy, Nation.

  46. Mr Worldwide | October 2, 2013 at 8:54 am

I am a leaf fan, and no way in my life that I will ever mock somebody that is injured on the ice. this is embarrassing!!!! These two guys are idiots.

  47. macks | October 2, 2013 at 9:00 am

Don’t group all Leafs fans in the same category. A lot of idiots for sure like these guys but the majority of us wouldn’t act like that and have sympathy for Parros and his family. Doesn’t matter what team it is true fans wouldn’t react like that

  48. Anthony Bona | October 2, 2013 at 9:00 am

Morons just absolute morons… hope Parros knock on these idiots’ front door and gives them both penis punches

  49. Hockey talk | October 2, 2013 at 9:01 am

Between Canucks and leaf fans I have been trying to decide for years which fan base is the most unrespectful, unintelligent, immature and disgraceful fans. Congrats Toronto, your the winner.

  50. Leaf Fan 4 Life | October 2, 2013 at 9:04 am

Ugh, why must every yahoo be lauded whenever an incident like this occurs. This person is clearly not indicative of the true nature of Leaf Nation, just like when a Habs fan mocks when a Leaf player is injured the whole legion of Habs fans should not be generalized. We should all be HOCKEY fans first with teams that we love. Any HOCKEY fan should be sickened by Parros accident last night. In the midst of all sports fans idiots will emerge, on ALL sides. Those that tease (on both sides) have probably never laced up and been hurt themselves or seen a friend hurt.

Don’t lump us all together. I feel horrible for Parros and wish him a speedy recovery. But for eff’s sake people, let’s stay classy.

  51. Christopher Robin | October 2, 2013 at 9:05 am

Typical useless Leafs fans. These guys are completely deserving of any retribution they get. This is why “Laff Nation” will never be respected and why the rest of the REAL hockey world thinks so little of the Leafs and their moron fans, and love the fact that 99.9% of the time, their TEAM is “Parrosing”. Effing Morons.

  52. Jen | October 2, 2013 at 9:09 am

Classless MORONS like that do not represent all TML fans, despite what Hab fans have. I have no doubt if the tables were turned and Orr slammed his face off the ice those idiots in that picture would be wearing blue and red and not blue and white. I think we can all agree there are fans of every team who lack integrity.

  53. Don | October 2, 2013 at 9:14 am

Why would you even print this story.
Just asking for trouble and retaliation.
    DIGUSTING.
The man was seriously hurt. Even Colton knew immediately and waved for assistance.

  54. Chris | October 2, 2013 at 9:14 am

Just another example of the Leafs having the lowest class fans in the league. Thanks for proving it once again!

  55. Marc | October 2, 2013 at 9:28 am

I didn’t know Nick Kypreos was psychic. He immitated Parros in 1997 when he was a Leaf. Oh, wait a minute…

  56. Leaf Erikson | October 2, 2013 at 9:28 am

February 2012, Chara got hit in the face with a puck, dropped and had to be taken off. The Habs fans cheered!!!! The WHOLE arena, not one tweet! Suck it up!

  57. Rudy | October 2, 2013 at 9:33 am

I’m a huge Leaf fan and I think anyone that makes fun of anyone getting injured is a classless moron…That is not cool or funny whatsoever!! Be careful Karma will bite you in the ass!!

  58. Robert | October 2, 2013 at 9:33 am

Whinny Habs fans. Looks good on them.

  59. Sandy | October 2, 2013 at 9:42 am

Please don’t group all Leafs fans in with those two classless clowns. Nobody wants to see someone lying on the ice like that. I don’t care what team you cheer for.
This Leaf fan hopes Parros makes a full and speedy recovery. Both Orr and Parros have a ton of respect for each other and play the game the right way.

  60. Kurt | October 2, 2013 at 9:43 am

That is why the Leafs and their fans will never amount to anything. Total disgrace to the NHL and the human race

  61. George Paras | October 2, 2013 at 9:51 am

True Leafs’ fans would not mock an injured player. That’s like saying all Muslims agree with what happened with 9/11

  62. Steve | October 2, 2013 at 9:54 am

Classless morons…they do NOT represent real hockey fans or real leaf fans! Get well George!

  63. Mr.Hockey | October 2, 2013 at 9:59 am

The same thing happened to Colton Orr a few years ago an we certainly didn’t see the same tasteless antics around that. Any person who would mock and/or celebrate a serious injury to another player is not a hockey fan – they’re goon fans and the league needs far fewer of them.

  64. ksk93 | October 2, 2013 at 9:59 am

Classless move…but this is becoming more and more common as people try to impress others on social media. Anything for a cheap laugh.
Also, these guys aren’t real Leaf fans. they’re just giving the good leaf fans a bad name. There were always be some bad apples in the bunch giving the rest of the batch a bad name.

  65. L.D. | October 2, 2013 at 10:06 am

    Totally classless!!

  66. Jp | October 2, 2013 at 10:07 am

Anyone who says this is “leafs nation” is just dumb, this is the actions of a few idiots….if someone robbed a bank in a habs jersey you would not say thats habs nation for you….99.9% of leafs fans would look at that and forget about rivals and just hope he’s ok..I am a die hard leafs fan…but how can you not love that stache of his…So before you post about leafs nation..give your head a shake and realize when there are millions of fans….less then 10 don’t make up the group…

  67. Sandy | October 2, 2013 at 10:07 am

Hey Kurt, I’m a Leaf fan and happen to be pretty successful. So shut your mouth. Those two morons don’t represent all Leafs fans. Get off your high horse. Moron.

  68. Sir Edmond Baconator | October 2, 2013 at 10:21 am

Very distasteful for these stick wielding rogues.

  69. dano | October 2, 2013 at 10:29 am

As about as classy an act as Toronto is in general. The boorish arrogant Canadian arises in one
of the least appealing places on earth.

  70. John | October 2, 2013 at 10:30 am

As a Leafs fan, I’d like to apologize to Habs fans and George Parros’ family and friends for the actions of a few idiots who call themselves Leafs fans.

  71. Tyler | October 2, 2013 at 10:36 am

Give me a break?!?! It is hockey, people get hurt. That picture was funny. Not even a leafs fan but I can’t believe how pathetic habs fans are. Are you guys going to cry because someone made a joke about one of your players? Grow up!

  72. Carleone | October 2, 2013 at 10:50 am

What did they expect them to do? The Habs fans were cheering during the Tinordi and Ashton fight. And don’t forget that Parros got what was coming- he tried to land a knock out blow to
Orr while he was off balance. If the situation was reversed the Habs fans would have done the same thing. It’s unfortunate they got up beat on the score board and in that fight.

  73. DBF | October 2, 2013 at 10:51 am

I am a lifelong Leafs fan and have to say that often the worst thing about being a Leafs fan is other Leafs fans!

  74. Texacanuck | October 2, 2013 at 11:00 am

THE HEADLINE IS RIDICULOUS AND SENSATIONAL. Some single moron and his ‘buddy’ decide to mock a serious injury and this ‘journalist’ says “Leaf fans mock Parros inury” in a sad attempt to overstate the reality in hopes of gaining some readers. Way to paint 99% of concerned Leafs fans with the same brush as that classless joke. Haters stereotype leaf fans with our bottom feeders. Every team’s fan base has idiots. We have more BECAUSE WE HAVE MORE FANS!

  75. Paul | October 2, 2013 at 11:04 am

These are not true Leafs fans. These are radical Leafs fans. Us moderate Leafs fans are tasteful, I swear!

  76. Thomas Tibbo | October 2, 2013 at 11:07 am

I’m a big Leaf fan but I,m also a hockey fan .This is tasteless and fans like this are not needed in the NHL

  77. Tony | October 2, 2013 at 11:10 am

Leafs fan here I hope Parros makes a full recovery and the 2 morons are totally ridicule to the fullest extent. You fans of other teams get a grip Leaf fans are no more morons, a$$holes than any other team fan base. When a fan base is larger than other fan bases there are going to be more morons because of sheer numbers but no more % wise. Most people and yes Leafs fans were horrified by the incident but we are relieved he is going to be ok. You fans that paint leaf fans with the same brush are the type of morons that will jump on any incident involving the leafs and are the type of fans that would tarnish their own fan base. Get better Mr. Parros

  78. Az | October 2, 2013 at 11:13 am

I am Leafs fan, and I am disgusted by this picture. These two should be ashamed. An injury like this is scary, and NO ONE is happy when they happen. Colton Orr was a class act though when he got up right away and called the medics.
Hoping and praying for a speedy recovery.

  79. Peter Yerdon | October 2, 2013 at 11:17 am

These people do not represent the true leaf fan. No one inthier right mind would do this. Please take off the Jersey. You do us all a dishonour, real sports fans that is regardless of team!

  80. VIPER | October 2, 2013 at 12:12 pm

Okay, this pose looks close to the one that kadri and kessel did in game seven last year, and did these leaf fans not see the first period fight, orr got his ass handed to him, oh yeah, I wonder how ashton’s face felt after that one punch from Tinordi, knocked him back about five feet!

  81. Laylow | October 2, 2013 at 12:21 pm

All teams have idiotic fans who represent the smallest minority, yet usually get the most attention due to stupid things like this. I was at a leafs/Habs game at the Bell Centre a few years back and the 8 of us had leafs Jerseys on and enjoyed the game as the Leafs ended up with the win. On the way out 5 habs fans started stepping on the back of my feet, pulling on my Leafs jersey and trying to spit on me. Classy Habs fans! We were even warned by a Habs fan on the way in, an older guy who mentioned that “there are too many stupid habs fans these days, kids with no respect who get drunk and just want to fight when we lose” and he was right. So don’t say Leafs fans are the worst. I have never seen anything like that in my 80+ games at the ACC.

  82. Matt | October 2, 2013 at 12:32 pm

I love how people extrapolate these two idiots to indict all Leafs of being this ignorant. I’m a diehard Leaf fan and not only was I worried about Parros laying there on the ice, I find these two fools to be abhorrent.

  83. classlesslaffs | October 2, 2013 at 1:35 pm

Too bad those two clowns are breathing face down!!!

  84. Bob | October 2, 2013 at 2:16 pm

as a leaf fan, and a hockey fan in general, this is embarrassing and disgraceful. Couple of idiots. Not that he would ever see this post, but I apologize to Parros on behalf of Leaf fans who are not a jackass.

  85. Craig | October 2, 2013 at 2:51 pm

What bother me is that if the shoe was on the other foot, there would be some idiot fan in Montreal fan posting the same infantile crap. Its both insulting and absurd to generalise to such an epic proportion as most of the commenter here have done. Its sports, and there isn’t any one fan base out there in all of pro sports that is better, or worse than another. This is a silly thread.

  86. Habs Fan from Maine | October 2, 2013 at 3:50 pm

Dear Leafs fans and Canoe ca, I see the point here, how many times have Montreal fans Mocked an Opposing player that was laying on the ice injured. Guess that’s Just Ice..Get it, Justice. Just Ice
Maybe if the Hab Nots stopped drafting and signing so many Smurfs , these players would be able to defend themselves..HabFans.

  87. Larek | October 2, 2013 at 3:59 pm

First, Why was PK Subban acting all tough with Colton Orr, because he had Parros to fight his battles. Guess what, Not anymore. Also a team loaded with smaller players like Gallagher, Briere , Desharnais and Gionta gets every beating they deserve. Habs keep getting these smaller players, and Most of them arent even that talented. Have to learn there are players around that combine size with skill.

  88. Stef | October 2, 2013 at 4:13 pm

2 idiots don’t define an entire legion of fans… so for the haters saying all leaf fans are classes are incredibly simple minded. I am a leaf fan and didn’t find any comfort or solace in seeing Parros lying on the ground motionless. I actually wish him a speedy recovery and hope he’s good to go soon so him and Orr can duke it out properly GO LEAFS!

  89. CanadianGuest | October 2, 2013 at 4:23 pm

Sad, but every team has fans like these. Most fans recognize the severity of what happened, but there will always be those other few that don’t represent the group. We can’t give a blanket guilty to an entire fan base because of the actions of these two. I know I don’t want to be judged because of the idiot Sens fan that makes an inappropriate comment or display. Lets lay the blame where it is deserved, right at the feet of Damian Amato and his buddy.

  90. Wayne | October 2, 2013 at 4:45 pm

I don’t think those guys are making fun of anyone, that’s the diver and the lumberjack, tired from an honest day’s work.

  91. Phil Leaf Fan | October 2, 2013 at 4:57 pm

I am a Leaf Fan, i think that those two retards just have no respect for what happend last night. They do not represent the whole of Leaf Nation and deserve to be knocked out for being so classless and disrespectful.

  92. Chris Hockey fan | October 2, 2013 at 5:23 pm

reminds me of the low life Leaf fan with a sign saying Matt Cooke for mvp after he cut Karlsson last year, wish I had a hot cup of coffee in my hand instead of a cold beer because he would have gotten it in the face…

  93. Aaron H | October 2, 2013 at 5:27 pm

Disappointing! Social media gives idiots an audience they didn’t have in years past which is an issue for society as a whole as the most extreme and outrageous posts usually get the greatest attention. Not against fighting in hockey but I do have respect for all those who do it and still feel empathy for anyone seriously hurt. These boys on the floor are not representing me as a Leafs fan!

  94. Yann | October 3, 2013 at 1:49 am

    No Rispeck!!

  95. Steve | October 3, 2013 at 1:56 pm

All the morons on here bashing Leaf fans, are just as immature as the two morons who posted that picture…
