Stanley Cup playoffs getting more than a little nutty

- April 18th, 2014

Don’t call it a comeback, call it a cup-check.

Boston Bruins’ forward Milan Lucic decided it was a good idea to swing his stick at Detroit Red Wings’ defenceman Danny DeKeyser’s groin on Friday night.

I mean, he really didn’t hold anything back on this one.

I’m sure this is not what Claude Julien wanted to see in Game 1 of the tightly contested series.

Lucic got away with the spear, with no penalty called on the play.

Now we all anxiously wait to see how many games Lucic will get for this grimy move.

UPDATE: Corey Perry decided to get in on the action as well, spearing his Team Canada Olympic team linemate Jamie Benn in the groin.

Between the two groin spearing incidents, and Joel Quenneville’s odd groin grab that cost him $25,000, it seems like the 2014 NHL playoffs have quite the theme going for them.

The 2014 Stanley Cup playoffs, it’s nuts.

Everyone knows that only the threat of a class action lawsuit would make the NHL think about fining or suspending for this deplorable act. Just ask Colon Campbell.

Just a little correction; DeKeyser is a defenseman, not a forward. At any rate, thanks for sharing these clips.

Let’s not forget about Dubinsky’s spear to Crosby’s gonads in Game 1 of their series! Because it’s the Cup?

Bush league move by both guys. More so for Lucic I think. Deserves at least 3 games. But not likely to happen because its the playoffs.

A classless act by a guy who gets away with more than his fair share of dirty work. Even worse is the token $5,000 fine imposed by the NHL. who are demonstrating they have no b…ls. Must have lost them to Lucic years ago.

Low blow. Hitting below the belt. That was such a dirty move.

If it was a Leafs player doing that, it would be a multiple game suspension. But, it can’t be a Leafs player as it is the playoffs. Go anyone but the Bruins!
