NHL prospects show off sick skills in camp shootout

- July 15th, 2014

Development camps for NHL teams have been underway for just a few days and already the league’s top prospects are pumping out highlight-reel material.

Nashville Predators picks Kevin Fiala and Viktor Arvidsson provided a double-whammy this week. Arvidsson, drafted in the fourth round this season, pulled off a sweet spin-o-rama while holding the puck under the heel of his stick before tucking it back and scoring on the forehand. Fiala, drafted No. 11 overall in June, followed up with the Forsberg-like deke with a one-handed tap-in on the backhand.

Both Fiala and Arvidsson were signed to entry-level deals Tuesday. Fiala sounded, uh, enthused about the news.

Washington Capitals prospect Jakub Vrana also got in on the fun. The 13th overall pick in 2014 faked out the goalie before putting it in reverse for the open-mouth goal.

What have we learned? Probably not a whole lot. These are development camps after all and only provide a glimpse into a possible future. It’s nice, however, to see some flashy hockey played during the summer.

Sick skills? Did someone get ill while watching the players or did their fancy moves make them nauseous?
