Bad joke alert!

Matt Niskanen has been so lights-out this season that he is now literally turning lights off with his body checks.

The Pittsburgh Penguins blueliner leads the NHL in plus-minus with a plus-29 rating. In 51 games, he has recorded seven goals and 30 points. Five of those goals are game-winners, tops among all rearguards.

Thursday, Niskanen added “digital ad destroyer” to his resume.

Niskanen’s second-period hit on New York Islanders defenceman Thomas Hickey knocked out the lights of a digital advertisement display on the boards at Nassau Coliseum.

It was kind of an odd collision, as Hickey’s wild body movements making the hit appear harder than it actually was.

For what it’s worth, Pittsburgh won the game 6-4. Niskanen, who is making a strong case for a sizable raise on the free agent market this off-season, chipped in two assists.

Does this mean the Matt Niskanen Hat-Trick — two assists, one lights-out hit — is a thing now?
