Predators goalie Carter Hutton with the save of the year?

- January 16th, 2014

The look of disbelief on Philadelphia Flyers winger Michael Raffl’s face was palpable.

He got robbed. Not just of a goal, but his very soul. As he looked at the replay, Raffl looked like a man who had his faith in the hockey gods taken from him. He had both lived it and watched the footage, but still could not believe what happened.

The row of smiles on the Nashville Predators bench, however, told a different story.

Carter Hutton had just delivered a save-of-the-year candidate, and his teammates knew it.

As the puck was dumped into the Preds zone, Hutton went behind his net to make a play. Except the puck ended up bouncing against the back boards and rolling in front of the empty cage.

With a burst of speed, Raffl was first to reach the puck and fired a quick shot.

But like a third baseman covering the hot corner, Hutton made a diving catch to prevent extra bases.

The first-period save kept the score 2-1 in a game the Preds would win 4-3 Thursday.

This one will surely be on all end-of-the-year highlight reels.
