McDonagh sends Perry into bench twice in 12 seconds

- November 4th, 2013

New York Rangers defenceman Ryan McDonagh recorded three hits Monday night.

Two-thirds of his total was accomplished over a 12-second span and involved Anaheim Ducks forward Corey Perry flying into the Rangers bench.

Although Perry would have the last laugh — the Ducks won 2-1, with Perry potting the game’s opening goal — the last 12 seconds of the second period couldn’t have been too much fun.

McDonagh, who has about as many career points (66) as Perry records in a subpar season, caught the sniper at the right place at the right time. Twice.

Something tells me Don Cherry will be cutting the above clip for his latest Rock Em’ Sock Em’.

At the final buzzer, McDonagh had a minus-1 rating. Which leads me to calculate a new statistic:

2 into-the-bench hits + minus-1 rating = McDonagh Hat Trick?
