Smartphone snafu causes Ales Hemsky grief at trade deadline

- April 4th, 2013

Trade deadline day can give any seasoned hockey veteran the jitters.

So imagine how Ales Hemsky of the Edmonton Oilers must have felt when he was with teammates on the eve of trade deadline day and received a phone call from general manager Steve Tambellini.

But as it turns out, it was just an accidental pocket dial.

The Edmonton Journal’s Joanne Ireland tweeted out the funny little tale about Hemsky’s phone call. Ryan Whitney, Taylor Hall and Hemsky shared the story today.

Hemsky’s name had been brought up by some pundits as possible trade bait, and even NHL.com had a page dedicated to all the hullabaloo surrounding Edmonton transactions.

After 3 p.m. ET rolled around, Hemsky was still in the Orange and Blue, and all pundits were proven wrong once again.

As for the movie Hemsky and company were taking in? Olympus Has Fallen. Which, according to Ireland’s chat with the  crew, was given a grim review.
