Stamkos redeems himself after scoring own goal

- March 29th, 2014

Steven Stamkos had himself a night on Saturday.

The super sniper scored a hat trick — albeit an atypical one — against the Sabres in Buffalo.

Here’s how it went down:

First, with time running out in the opening period, Stamkos notched his 22nd of the season. It was a laser.

The Tampa Bay Lightning centre’s second goal of the game wasn’t so lovely, however, seeing as it crossed the wrong goal line.

The gaffe didn’t come at a great time for the Lightning. The teams were tied 2-2.

Stamkos, who had control of the puck on the sideboards, appeared to put too much juice on a pass to defenceman Mike Kostka. It hopped over Kostka’s stick, raced down the ice, and ended up in Tampa’s unattended net.

But, as Stamkos so often does, Stamkos played hero in extra time. The Bolts left western New York with a 4-3 win.

The 24-year-old potted the game-winner via slap shot. It was his ninth goal in 12 games since returning from a broken leg. (Not bad, eh?)

Channeling his inner Lloyd Christmas, Stamkos totally redeemed himself:
