This is one of Sidney Crosby’s best goals ever

- December 4th, 2013

Sidney Crosby has scored a number of highlight-reel goals in his nine-year NHL career. No. 253 is one of them.

After having tied Tuesday night’s tilt against the New York Islanders in the third period, the Pittsburgh Penguins star rose to the occasion again in overtime for a 3-2 victory.

What makes this goal so special? Let’s review.

1) Crosby picks off a short-range pass from Thomas Vanek intended for John Tavares

2) He splits the Isles D, and in particular burns Calvin de Haan

3) With his arms extended, he has enough strength to chip the puck backhanded over goaltender Anders Nilsson.

For comparison, here’s a look at TSN’s Top 10 Crosby Moments. Think the goal above cracks the list?

Crosby’s #1 in the top ten – too bad they were offside on the play.
