In case you haven’t noticed, Zenon Konopka is one intriguing dude.

On the ice, he sports a unique skill set. He’s excellent in the faceoff circle, yet is perhaps best known for throwing punches.

Away from the game, Konopka, who hails from Ontario’s wine country — he was born in St. Catharines and grew up in nearby Niagara-on-the-Lake — has dabbled in the local market. He owns a wine company called ZK28 Wines and also produces grape seed oil.

Another tidbit: Konopka has a pet rabbit named Hoppy, which he adores.

The 33-year-old is also a charitable fellow, lending a hand to at least two foundations, Stop Concussions and SickKids.

On Tuesday, the tough guy crossed “brain operation observer” off his bucket list.

Wait, whaaaaatt?

His tweet doesn’t elaborate about why he’s inside the operating room, but my guess is he’s visiting a Buffalo area hospital.

The Sabres hosted the Edmonton Oilers Monday night at First Niagara Center, winning 3-2. Konopka did not dress. Buffalo entertains the Pittsburgh Penguins Wednesday, also at home.

So, with a day between the tilts, Konopka felt the need to take a #frontrowseat at an operation. That may be an NHL first.

In January, the social media-savvy NHLer posted an Instagram photo of his picks for a second Team Canada roster for the Sochi Olympics.

With the Olympics just around the corner, let’s take another look:
