For some reason, guys seem to think sports events are great venues for marriage proposals.
Not sure exactly why they think it’s the best place for one of the more intimate — and hopefully memorable — moments of their life but, hey, it keeps happening.
UCLA Bruins linebacker/safety Stan McKay packaged up the whole sports-proposal thing a slightly different way Friday, waiting until after the game to ask his girl for her hand in marriage. Yeah, he had a good reason for waiting — he was playing against the Washington Huskies.
Sweaty and smelly from playing and still in his uniform, while surrounded by a few dozen of his teammates in the middle of the field in an empty stadium, McKay dropped to one knee and popped the question to his bemused (confused?) girlfriend.
Quite the romantic, huh?
No matter how odd it may have seemed to us non-athletes, it turned out to be a win-win kind of night for McKay. The Bruins won the game and his girlfriend said yes And both results drew huge roars of approval from McKay’s teammates.
But it wasn’t the first time a player has proposed after a game.
Remember the 2007 Fiesta Bowl? In a hard-to-top moment, Boise State’s Ian Johnson scored the game-winning two-point convert against Oklahoma — it was a stunning upset — then, with a huge TV audience watching, proposed to cheerleader Chrissy Popadics.
She said yes, too, so I guess the football tie-in works, fellas.
