Jeopardy! contestant gives one of the worst answers we’ve seen

- March 27th, 2014

As a good Sudbury, Ont. boy, Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek gets giddy whenever he has the chance to rattle off an NHL question to the intellectuals that grace his stage.

He got that opportunity during a recent airing of his popular game show.

The possible answers?

NHL greats Mario Lemieux, Bobby Orr and … The Great One.

Maybe another NHL great if you aren’t up to speed on all things puck — especially in the U.S.

Poor Joe, however, won’t be able to face his friends after providing this answer.

I’ve my 45 years being on this planet and spending at least 40 of them living in Canada, I can say that I wouldn’t have come up with the right answer either.

DAVID – you may not have known who the player was but i am sure you would have stayed in the same sport!

If you are ever in a trivia contest about old NHL records, your go to answers are “Wayne Gretzky”, “Gordie Howe”, or “Bobby Orr”. Usually with those 3 you have a better than average chance of getting it right :)

The guy likely knew the answer, but probably had a braincramp and confused NHL for NBA, so I can kind of see how it could happen, especially under pressure.

It’s obvious he was thinking NBA. Also, it couldn’t have been Bobby Orr; he only played about a dozen years and a few of those years he hardly played. Furthermore, 100+ assists back then was a rare occurrence. I think he did do it once.
