Jets defenceman has helmet stolen by fan during game

- November 6th, 2013

Anyone who has ever attended an NHL game knows there is a chance an errant puck will go over the glass and, voila, instant souvenir.

But a helmet from one of the players in the game? Nope, never happen.

It almost did happen during Wednesday’s game between the Winnipeg Jets and Chicago Blackhawks. And the circumstances were, well, unusual to say the least.

An enterprising fan at the United Centre tried to pilfer the helmet worn by Winnipeg’s Adam Pardy — the dude even tried the sweaty bucket on — after a scrum in the corner. And he wasn’t very subtle about it.

After Pardy was hit into the glass by Chicago’s Brandon Bollig, the pane became dislodged and a couple of players, including the Jets defenceman, found themselves in the first round of seats (and being drenched by some sort of liquid). As Pardy was being shoved into the stands, a fan simply reached over and plucked the helmet from his head and, after a moment’s pause and without spilling his beer, put it on his own melon.

Pardy, it seems, got the back without incident.

‘Twas a humourous moment from an otherwise uphappy game for the Jets. Check out the video evidence below.
