Joannie Rochette’s industrial-sized ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

- August 15th, 2014

Joannie Rochette is among latest wave of athletes to accept the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, and the Canadian figure skater went big with her submission.

Really big.

Forget about dumping a bucket of ice water over her head, the Olympic bronze medallist went out and got a dump truck.

It might not be as Hollywood as Paul Bissonnette’s entry, but that’s a friggin’ big piece of equipment.

Also, it seems Rochette was aiming to one-up ice dancer Scott Moir, who used a puny dirt mover in his submission.

These stunts are all part of a social media campaign to raise awareness for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Challenges are passed on from one person to another and people are encouraged to make a similar video or make a donation to the ALS Association.

Rochette, for example, was challenged by Canadian ice dancer Tessa Virtue …

Who was challenged by actor Elisha Cuthbert, wife of Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Dion Phaneuf …

… and so on.

Here’s the link if you wish to make a donation to the ALS Association.

How much fresh water has just been dumped on the ground for these challenges? Anyone have the numbers? May the next challenge can be to see how much fresh food we pour/waste on ourselves.

seriously? that’s the complaint? How much awareness has ALS garned from this compared to before? How little of an impact does this have on the amount of water we have? You’re complaining about water waste while not realize the bigger picture, it’s like tripping over dollars to pick up quarters and dimes…

All these famous people are dumping water over their heads……but how is that really helping ALS??

Personally, I think one of them should decline the challenge and instead take a video of themselves presenting a (BIG!?) donation to ALS!

The ALS Association has apparently received $5.5 million since July 29, up from just $32,000 over the same period last year.

No way of telling how much athletes and celebrities have donated, but the campaign itself is doing a heck of a lot of good.

Mlick really? I suppose you never ever wash your car right? Bathe only once a month and drink beer to conserve water! Get a life Buddy!

McClick and Derwood, why be so negative? McClick – that’s just an idiotic complaint and Derwood, if you kept up with what’s going on, they donate AND do the challenge, hence all the money being raised. Man, some people are just not happy unless they’re complaining.
