It didn’t take long for Joel Ward’s Saturday morning to go right into the toilet.
The Washington Capitals winger found himself stuck in the washroom inside a Dallas hotel ahead of Saturday night’s game against the Stars.
It turns out the 32-year-old couldn’t re-open a stall door after entering, leading to Ward sending out an S.O.S. of sorts while his teammates were finishing up a pre-game meal.

When Ward’s teammates arrived, online photos chronicled the incident and detailed the predicament Ward was in – the space between the door and the floor was too small to squeeze through and the space above the stall a tight fit.
“Basically we had the whole Dallas SWAT team come in and still couldn’t open the door,” Ward told The Washington Post. “The latch on the inside where I was would turn but the bolt wouldn’t move; I think it was stripped.”
After 40 minutes of trying to free him, teammates eventually found a ladder that was used to pull Ward over the stall well before game time in Dallas.
