Oh, Brandon Meriweather, when will you learn?
The Washington Redskins safety (and frequent visitor to the NFL doghouse), fresh off a one-game suspension for illegal hits, has now added verbal head shots to his arsenal of questionable tactics.
Meriweather missed Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos after being suspended for illegal hits during Washington’s game against the Chicago Bears. Brandon Marshall suggested Meriweather, a repeat offender of the highest order, should be booted from the NFL for his disregard of the rules.
But losing a game cheque taught him nothing, obviously, as he felt the need to blow up Marshall — this time with a few choice words.
And, oh yes, Meriweather did indeed spout off … and his comments got very personal. Probably a week late, but the wait was, ahem, worth it.
“Listen, everybody’s got their opinion of things, you know,” Meriweather said. “Everybody’s got their opinion. He feels like, you know, I need to be kicked out of the league. I feel like, people who beat their girlfriends should be kicked out of the league too.
“You tell me who you’d rather have: Somebody who plays aggressive on the field, or somebody who beats up their girlfriend?”
Hoo boy, that was a shot. Kinda like the ones on “defenceless” receivers the NFL’s zebras like to flag and, well, Meriweather is known for.
In case your memory is a little worse than Meriweather’s, Marshall was charged in 2009 with two counts of simple battery after an incident with his then-girlfriend Rasheedah Watley. Marshall was found not guilty and a lawsuit filed by Watley claiming she was abused was dismissed this year.
Clearly, Meriweather didn’t get the memo about the not-guilty verdict.
Or the one about shutting up before people realize you ARE, in fact, an idiot.
