Red Sox doing away with ‘Duck Dynasty’ look in 2014

Remember how the Boston Red Sox used the whole ‘Duck Dynasty’ look en route to the World Series last season?

Well, the Red Sox want to turn the page on the gaudy facial hair gimmick.

“The beard’s coming off,” Boston outfielder Jonny Gomes said at a Red Sox “town hall” event at Northeastern University, via ESPN Boston. “Oh, yeah.”

The bonding beards — some awesomely impressive, others, uh, not so much — were the brainchild of Gomes and first baseman Mike Napoli.

Clearly, it worked. But next season is a new chapter for the Red Sox and the beards are gonna go.

So the Red Sox will be clean-shaven in 2014? Not so fast, Uncle Si.

Apparently Napoli didn’t get the memo. News that the beards were coming off hadn’t reached him in the wilds of wherever he spends his off-season.

And Napoli followed that tweet up with visual evidence he hasn’t run for a razor yet.

Hmm, wonder if there’s some discord in the cards for the Red Sox?

Gomes is, evidently, the man in charge of these things, Red Sox catcher David Ross told ESPN Boston. (Ross says he’s already gotten rid of his beard). But Gomes isn’t sure what he can come up with for 2014.

“I’m running out of shenanigans,” he said.

Bet Napoli would vote for to bring back the facial fuzz as the Red Sox attempt to repeat as World Series champs.
