Wings’ Smith squares up to Chara, who proceeds to have a laugh

- April 20th, 2014

A few seconds likely seemed like an eternity for an overmatched Red Wings defenceman Sunday afternoon.

With man-mountain Zdeno Chara hulking over him during Game 2, Detroit’s Brendan Smith briefly thought about dancing with Boston’s big body.

But after his first jab didn’t come close – and with his head coach apparently laughing on the bench – the 25-year-old stalled.

And stalled.

He then stalled a bit more as the Slovakian appeared to tell him to drop his gloves.

So, Smith did what any overmatched NHLer would do …

He told Chara to drop his stick.

Which, uh, he did.

That, however, bought Smith just enough time to allow a referee to come to his aid.

The whole sequence is pretty entertaining.

TALE OF THE TAPE

(Yeah, this wouldn’t have been pretty.)

smart move on Smith’s part. Chara would have hurt him badly.
