Young soccer fan miffed at prank Christmas gift

- December 27th, 2013

Gotta love parents who will prank their kids, even at Christmas.

(Because, if you can’t prank your kids, who can you prank?)

Saw this little nugget of pranksterism on Deadspin.

A Portuguese couple, well aware their young daughter was a supporter of Benfica, took the opportunity to pull a fast one on the child at Christmas by buying her a substitute gift from a bitter soccer rival — a Porto jersey. (Yes, I know it’s bizarre that a child that age would be a sports fan but, well, it’s the European soccer culture. Or something.)

To put it in perspective, imagine giving your Maple Leafs-loving kid a Montreal Canadiens jersey. Probably wouldn’t go over well, would it?

But check out the reaction of the kid when she opens — or, partly opens — the gift and spots the Porto colours on the shirt. I have to admit, I’ve never seen a child stare down parents like that before.

The looks she gives mom and dad is absolutely priceless.

The child is so repulsed by the Porto jersey, she won’t even touch it! And then, when daddy holds it up for her to see it, the child (predictably) starts to cry.

But have no fear, folks, there is a happy ending to this tale of two jerseys.
