Tracy and the INDYCAR buy ride farce

- February 4th, 2011

Paul Tracy is telling everyone who cares to ask that he has about $1 million U.S. in sponsorship lined up for any team that wants to take a chance on the 42-year-old Scarborough native.
In an interview with the Indianapolis Star Tracy lashed out at IZOD INDYCAR team owners who don’t even bat an eye these days at a driver with a million bucks in his pocket to buy a ride.
“I’ve got a million dollars lined up, I’m talking to teams (about possible rides), and it’s like I’m a beggar on the street,” Tracy told Indy reporter Curt Cavin. “One million dollars is like 10 cents to team owners.”
Tracy must feel like he has been kicked in the nether regions by his old pal Jimmy Vasser over at KV Racing Technology — where Tracy raced in the Canadian INDYCAR races the past two seasons — after that team announced it has agreed to take a boat load of yens and bolivars from Takumo Sato and E.J. Viso for rides in 2011.
After all nobody in or out of open wheel racing would put either Sato or Viso in the same sentence with Tracy when talking talent.
It just points to, however, the huge credibility gap that INDYCAR has to overcome if it ever wants to even pretend it is in competition with NASCAR for North American motor sports fans.
What other conclusion is one to draw when KVRT says ““We are very excited to have Taku and E. J. back with us for 2011.”
Nonsense.
KVRT is only “very excited” that the pair can contribute to the American foreign exchange deficit.

I seem to recall Tracy watching the 500 from home last year while Sato and Viso were both in it. Yes, Paul Tracy is a talented driver, but his time has come and passed. I don’t know how you could justify putting Paul Tracy in a car while guys like Dan Wheldon, Oriol Servia, and James Hinchcliff are still floating around.

Paul tracy is still a great driver and he is so fun to watch . I tune in when PT is driving . If he is not driving i will watch something else. . I wish paul could somehow be a owner/driver ???????

  3. racing fan says:

What would be so cool is if BRET FAVRE as a owner and PT AS A DRIVER .

  4. flatdaddio says:

PT did not get into the 500 last year because the car would not make the time, there was also an error on bump day when they gave up their time to take another shot at improving it, that was a big mistake, if they would have held the time they had, PT would have been in..

  5. peter barnes says:

tracy is a cry baby. always a crash risk say other a worse, not fast enough to qualify at indy last year with same equipment of partners who did

  6. Bboy says:

Paul is the biggest cry baby, he is not a crash risk you know he will crash. There goes that million for repairs. The old man should stick with his bikecycle.
