Buddy Tinsley: 1924-2011

- September 15th, 2011

Very briefly folks, I want to update that I will be posting a longer piece in memory of Robert Porter (Bud) Tinsley, a Winnipeg Blue Bombers great who passed away Wednesday after a lengthy battle with illness.

Buddy was a close friend first of my grandparents in the 1950s and eventually became a beloved friend to our entire family. A born-and-raised Texan, Buddy became a Winnipegger, who loved the city and the people here, and he’ll also be to me one of the most genuine people I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. He was known by many as a Hall of Famer on the football field (CFL, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Manitoba Sports and Baylor HOFs), but he was so much more than that persona. He was a great man.

I look forward to sharing my thoughts in words for people to read and I’m honoured that I will be able to write a piece in his honour. He will be missed.

UPDATE: What was to be just a blog post here was given play in the Friday editions of the Winnipeg Sun and can be read here. I hope you’ll take a few moments to read about our good friend Buddy.

    Hi David
I am assuming that Louise Collison is your mother. Thanks so much for the story about Buddy it brought back so many great memories of hanging out in Selkirk at the Collison household with Buddy and Hazel. I too have great memories of Buddy teaching Joan and I how to toss a football. The trace he leaves on memory will not be forgotten. Regards Alexandra a.k.a Sandra Johnson
