With summer in full swing, now is the time for Canadians to get outdoors and enjoy the lakes, rivers, mountains, parks and other natural wonders this big, beautiful country offers.

For many Canadians, their best summer travel memories include water - whether swimming, canoeing or lounging beachside – according to a new survey from RBC.

The RBC Canadian Water Attitudes study found that 33% of the nearly 2,450 Canadians surveyed named swimming and going to the beach as their top summer water activities. Fishing was a close third with 28%, while 11% of respondents named canoeing as their favourite summer water past time.

Canada has the world’s longest shoreline at about 243,000 km long and our lakes, rivers and ocean waters offer plenty of opportunity for a summer excursion.

The RBC survey also found that nearly half of Canadians – 49% – believe our water is our most important natural resource, more so than forests (21%) and oil (10%).
