Shadowy Men On A Shadowy Planet gets 1st LP re-issue on Mammoth Cave Recording Company

- June 6th, 2012

Those on the hunt for CanCon obscurios prepare to bust out your credit card. Lethbridge-based Mammoth Cave Recording Co. is reissuing Shadowy Men On A Shadowy Planet’s first LP Savvy Show Stopperswith the rest of the discography coming in the next year. Mammoth Cave, quickly becoming a premiere Canadian label for exciting acts, plans to release the two more albums at six-month intervals starting with Savvy Show Stoppers’ June release.

Most people remember Shadowy Men for the Kids In The Hall theme “Having An Average Weekend,” which seared the song’s catchy bassline into the brains of generations of comedy fans everywhere. If you’re one of the few who wants to own that propulsive track on vinyl — and were but a child when the album was first released in 1990 on Cargo Records like me — here’s your chance. What’s more, they’re playing two shows to celebrate their upcoming re-release. If you’re in Calgary June 20, they’re playing at the Sled Island fest in the Royal Canadian Legion and again at the HiFi Club June 22. Torontonians can trek out to good ol’ Lee’s Palace to see the group July 14.

If you want a sample of the album, check out this playlist of Savvy Show Stopper tracks I culled from the depths of YouTube. And if you want to pick up the album it’s available here to purchase.
