Zakk & Black back on the attack

- June 19th, 2012

It’s going to be a Wylde fall for metal fans from coast to coast.

Viking guitar god Zakk Wylde and his Black Label Society are riding north for a cross-Canada tour in October and November.

The erstwhile Ozzy sideman with the bulls-eye Les Paul begins his assault Oct. 16 in St. John’s and leads his evil horde west to Vancouver, with 10 stops between.

Tickets for many of the shows shows go on sale Friday June 22 at Ticketmaster. They’ll set you back between about $45 and $60, depending on the city, venue and seating. Protest the Hero, Pop Evil and Heart Set Self Destruct have been listed as the opening acts on some dates.

The burly, bearded Wylde joined Ozzy Osbourne’s band in 1987 and worked with the Prince of Darkness for most of the next two decades. During that time, his biker-themed Black Label Society also released more than a dozen discs, including a Christmas EP and last year’s acoustic compilation The Song Remains Not the Same.

Zakk Wylde Canadian tour dates:
Oct. 16 | St. John’s | Mile One Centre
Oct. 18 | Halifax | Forum
Oct. 20 | Montreal | Metropolis
Oct. 21 | Niagara Falls | Rapids Theatre
Oct. 23 | Guelph | Concert Theatre
Oct. 24 | Toronto | Kool Haus

Slow jam with Diana

- June 19th, 2012

Swedish music blog No Modest Bear showcased two wistful electro-jams from new Canadian act Diana and I had to share.

“Born Again” is a slinky little number, as the lead singer croons over burbling bass and low-key synths. “Perpetual Surrender” is a slower, more soulful track where the vocals take centre stage, complemented by woozy saxophone before slowly trailing out with an atmospheric synthscape.
