New Pearl Jam album coming ‘this year’

- February 22nd, 2013

It’s shaping up to be an exciting year for fans of Pearl Jam.

First came the news of a handful of live shows (including a sold-out date at London’s Budweiser Gardens on July 16), now guitarist Mike McCready revealed to Rolling Stone that a new studio album will be released “this year, for sure.”

“What everybody’s been saying is halfway done,” he told the mag. “I think that’s true – we have seven songs that are relatively completed. But then we have an additional 15 ready to go aside from any that Eddie brings in, so we’ll weed through those.”

He also gave a few details about the sound of the new tunes, stating: “I think there’s a little bit more experimental stuff going on. There’s a Pink Floyd vibe to some of it, there’s a punk rock edge to other stuff.”

The album, which will be produced by longtime PJ knob twiddler Brendan O’Brien, will be the first studio effort since 2009′s Backspacer.

Here’s their tour dates for 2013 (so far):

Mon 03/04/13 Buenos Aires, Argentina Constanera Sur

Sun 03/31/13 Sao Paulo, Brazil Jockey Club (Lollapalooza)

Sat 04/06/13 Santiago, Chile Elipse Del Parque O’Higgins (Lollapalooza)

Tue 07/16/13 London, ON Budweiser Gardens

Fri 07/19/13 Chicago, IL Wrigley Field

Pearl Jam books Canadian date

- January 23rd, 2013

Pearl Jam have booked two early dates in the 2013 calendar, and it includes one stop north of the border.

The Seattle rockers are playing London, Ontario’s Budweiser Gardens on July 16, as well as Chicago’s Wrigley Field on July 19. Both gigs are billed as “An Evening With Pearl Jam,” meaning you will probably have full PJ for 3 plus hours, with no opening act.

Tickets for both shows go on sale on February 9.

The band, via its official website, promises an announcement in the coming months of more North American dates in the fall, which goes in line with a likely summer/fall drop date for their brand new album.

Pearl Jam sent out a few teaser tweets preceding the Chicago date announcement, that included a photo of a stage set up on what appears to be Wrigley Field with the two-word post “Looking good!” and the hashtag #StayTuned. It will mark the first time they’ve played the historic ballpark.
