Eminem, Skrillex, Kings of Leon to headline Lollapalooza: report

- March 20th, 2014

For those anxiously awaiting the official announcement of the Lollapalooza lineup in Chicago next week, it seems the cat is out of the bag — at least for the big acts.

The headliners will include Eminem, Skrillex, Kings of Leon and Arctic Monkeys, according to the Chicago Tribune, citing industry sources.

The marquee artists are familiar with the festival — they’ve all played it before. Eminem headlined in 2011, Kings of Leon did the same in 2009, while Skrillex and Arctic Monkeys have been in the middle of the pack in previous years, and this time around marks the first time they’ve had the big spotlight.

Lollapalooza, which marks its 10th edition this year, takes place at Grant Park on Aug. 1- 3. Tickets go on sale next Tuesday.

Last year’s lineup, which included Nine Inch Nails, the Cure, the Killers and Mumford & Sons, attracted a capacity crowd of 300,000 fans.

There is also a Facebook presale that fans can take advantage of through an RSVP, which starts on Saturday, March 22 at 10 a.m.

Eminem recently wrapped up a Australian and South African tour, while Rihanna has been seen hanging out with Toronto rapper Drake at some of his European shows.

Eminem does ‘The Stroke,’ slams ‘ugly’ Kardashian on new single ‘Berzerk’

- August 27th, 2013

Slim Shady has gone full-on old school, and has also made Billy Squier relevant again.

Eminem’s new single, Berzerk, samples heavily from Squier’s 1984 signature hit The Stroke, and the beginning of the song sounds pretty darn similar to the Beastie Boys’ Licensed to Ill track, Paul Revere.

Beasties’ Ad-Rock is then heard screaming “Kick It!” from “(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (To Party)” during a few bars.

And, of course, Marshall Mathers wouldn’t be back in the spotlight without a little bit of controversy. He takes a swipe at what is believed to be Khloe Kardashian three quarters of the way though the track:

They say that love is powerful as cough syrup and Styrofoam
All I know is I fell asleep and woke up in that Monte Carlo
With the ugly Kardashian
Lamar, oh sorry yo, we done both set the bar low

Crank up the boom box — we like what we we hear so far.

UPDATE: Berzerk is already hit No. 1 on the iTunes song chart.

Eminem’s upcoming eighth studio album, The Marshall Mathers LP 2, is due out on November 5th.

5 craziest MTV VMA moments

- August 22nd, 2013

Unlike most of the boring, humdrum award shows out there, you can always guarantee that a Jerry Springer-type moment will happen at the MTV Video Music Awards.

And with the likes of Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Kendrick Lamar, Robin Thicke, Drake and Justin Timberlake all scheduled to appear at the Barclays Center in New York on Sunday, we’re pretty sure that this year will be no different.

The festivities get underway at 9 p.m. ET on MuchMusic.

Here’s our picks for the top 5 craziest moments from the VMAs:

5. Lady Gaga’s meat dress, 2010

Never has an outfit that actually covered someone up caused this much controversy. The tongue-wagging pop star showed up on the red carpet dressed as a steak, and it made the front pages of every newspaper the next day.

4. Eminem threatens Moby, 2002

Their war of words came to a head when, after Slim Shady accepted the award for Best Male Video, (he) called the DJ a “little girl.” After hearing some cat calls coming from Moby’s seating area, Em then said, “I will beat up a man with glasses.”

3. Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley’s strange kiss, 1994

It will go down in history as one of the most uncomfortable award-opening moments on television. The newly-married couple attempted to show the world that they were indeed a legit pair, and it ended up working the opposite way. They lasted less than two years.

2. Kanye West ruins Taylor Swift’s moment in the sun, 2009

Kanye solidified his reputation as one of the biggest bad asses (or just an ass) around when he stormed the VMAs stage and hijacked (and overshadowed) Swift’s crowning achievement for Best Female Video that night. “Imma let you finish but…” became part of everyone’s vocabulary the next day.

1. Madonna & Britney kiss, 2003

Madonna attempted a phony “pass-the-torch” moment by locking lips with Britney Spears (as well as Christina Aguilera) at the 2003 VMAs that turned into tabloid fodder for months to come.

Shady’s back: Listen to Eminem’s new song ‘Survival’

- August 15th, 2013

Guess who’s officially back, back again?

Eminem has just unveiled a brand new song, titled “Survival,” which is featured on the video game trailer for Call of Duty: Ghosts.

The song has some old school Em punch to it, and contains a great female vocal to kick it off, as well as the usual “return to the rap game” lyrics we have heard before from Slim Shady. Listen to it below.

The track will be on Eminem’s upcoming eighth studio album, which is expected to be released sometime this year. An announcement regarding the new album and its first single is expected soon, according to a statement from his record label.
