Pearl Jam to release brand new single next week?

- July 1st, 2013

The countdown is on, Pearl Jam fans.

With initial reports indicating the veteran grungers are set to release their brand new single Mind Your Manners sometime this month, now a countdown clock is on display on their official website, ticking down to next Monday at 1 p.m. ET (July 8).

The track, according to Australia’s Triple M radio (they’ve apparently heard it), is described as “short, sharp, hard and loud,” in the straight-ahead punk vein of the group’s hard-charging single Spin the Black Circle (off of 1994′s Vitalogy). To add to the mystery, the post has since been taken down.

As far as the new album is concerned, here’s what we know. Speaking to Rolling Stone back in February, guitarist Mike McCready said that it will be released “this year, for sure,” and explained the sound of the songs as having a “Pink Floyd vibe to some of it, there’s a punk rock edge to other stuff.”

Meanwhile, here’s a be-wary-of-the-Internet alert: A random fan post on Pearl Jam’s message board indicated that the album will be called Tides, and has a release date of October 8. They even went as far as publishing a so-called “tracklist”:

1. Revolution Reruns (3:36)
2. Kickstop (2:14)
3. Vivid Futures (3:58)
4. Mind Your Manners (3:08)
5. The Undertow (4:04)
6. Red (3:23)
7. Of The Earth (6:15)
8. Tracking Change (4:21)
9. Uncharted Terrain (3:59)
10. Foliage (2:16)
11. Derision (3:32)
12. Sans Finis (7:12)

We’ll see how accurate this is – possibly next week.

The album, which will be produced by longtime PJ knob twiddler Brendan O’Brien, will be the first studio effort since 2009′s Backspacer.

The Seattle rockers have two upcoming sold-out shows at London, Ontario’s Budweiser Gardens on July 16, as well as Chicago’s Wrigley Field on July 19. Both gigs are billed as “An Evening With Pearl Jam,” meaning you will probably have full PJ for 3 plus hours, with no opening act.

The band, via its official website, promises an announcement in the coming months of more North American dates in the fall, which goes in line with a likely summer/fall drop date for their brand new album.

Pearl Jam sent out a few teaser tweets preceding the Chicago date announcement, that included a photo of a stage set up on what appears to be Wrigley Field with the two-word post “Looking good!” and the hashtag #StayTuned. It will mark the first time they’ve played the historic ballpark.
